It's a bit odd to see a cellular carrier debut a service with a computer-only edition, rather than one on a device using its wireless network, but Bobsled is an intriguing idea that very well may take off. Bobsled integrates with Facebook, letting you voice chat with friends instead of just using text. You can also record voice messages that can be included in wall posts and left for your friends.
The real interesting bit will come when T-Mobile finally release the iPhone and Android versions of Bobsled, which could give other mobile VoIP apps a real run for their money by encouraging casual use through more of this Facebook integration. The carrier will also be using Bobsled technology for some of the features it's touted for the Sidekick 4G (arriving tomorrow), like the group-based text messaging function. T-Mobile has said that future Bobsled releases may even include video chats.
There's no ETA on the smartphone versions of Bobsled, short of "coming soon".
