Having three different anonymous sources to confirm it, Reuters says that Apple will be starting the production for the next iPhone this July or August. The smartphone will reach shelves later this year, in September. Additionally, one source said that the iPhone will be sporting a faster processor but will generally maintain the iPhone 4's outer aspect.
We've heard several rumors about the specs of the upcoming iPhone and a more powerful processor was one of those. There was a lot of buzz around a possible return to the aluminum backplate, a redesigned antenna, a larger, four-inch screen, an eight-megapixel camera and then a 12.6-megapixel one. We'll see what the real deal is whenever it comes out.
